The number of factories in the category of “Basic Metal Industries” in Saudi Arabia by the Hijri year 1427 amounted to 618 with a total finance of SR 23.5 billion. The largest steel company is the Saudi Iron and Steel Company (Hadeed, SABIC) and it is the largest in the middle east and its production was 4 million tons in 2007. during the first quarter of 2008, its production rose up to 1.342 million tons of long and flat products against 0.971 million tons during the first quarter of 2007, that is, up by 38.23%.

The Cement industry is also growing at a high speed due to the prosperous Saudi economy and the implementation of new strategic development plans. This and together with the fast growing population have increased the demand on housing and infrastructure of new industrial and economical cities. More cement plants have been put into operation to meet the increasing demand.
